The Toronto Cityscape grows ever larger and more exciting. As a photographer living in Toronto, I wanted to capture the beautiful skyline just after sunset so the glow of the city along with the warm colors of the summer night, to deliver on the feel I wanted to create. To take this image, I needed to cross the channel on a ferry to arrive at the Toronto Islands.
Once I arrived there, I had to scramble quickly to the shore where I would be able to capture this exact view (square on to the city shore). Luckily, I beat other photographers who were also trying to get to that spot. With my tripod in the water and me sitting on a rock for the next 2 hours, I waited for the right time to take this shot, and got it. After I "got the shot" I packed up and turned to walk away, and I saw that the photographers were 6 deep trying to get the spot I had. Lucky me, it paid off to get there early.
Some background on the CN Tower. As the signature icon of the skyline, the CN Tower stands 553.3 m-high (1,815.3 ft) high and serves as a communications and observation tower. At one point the CN Tower held the record for the world's tallest free-standing structure for 32 years until 2007 when it was surpassed by the Burj Khalifa. It is now the ninth tallest free-standing structure in the world and remains the tallest free-standing structure on land in the Western Hemisphere.
In 1995, the CN Tower was declared one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World by the American Society of Civil Engineers. It also belongs to the World Federation of Great Towers. It attracts more than two million international visitors annually.
