For anyone who has travelled to the beautiful and idyllic town of Sonoma, in California’s wine region just north of San Francisco, you will know doubt have seen and possibly even entered the famous Sebastiani Theatre. The Theatre was built by Samuele Sebastiani in 1933 as a movie house and was designed by well-known theater architect James W. Reid. Its first movie, screened on April 7, 1934, was "Fugitive Lovers" starring Robert Montgomery. Admission price was 30¢.

During my very first visit to Sonoma, on a wine tasting trip, we attended the famous Sonoma Market which held weekly on Tuesday nights. What a wonderful event. The entire town seems to come out to enjoy food, entertainment, picnics and friendship. It was from that location that I first saw the Sebastiani Theatre. I knew I wanted to capture its gorgeous architecture and history. After all, the very existence of the Sebastiani Theatre is part of Sonoma region’s identity where the town’s beauty, intimacy, and interconnectedness is beloved by its residents and recognized by its visitors. The Theatre truly does have a unique role in the community.
