Just thinking of Rome, conjures up in me thoughts of fabulous restaurants, people handwaving, endless water fountains, the Vatican, the Colosseum, crazy drivers, Roman Architecture - and then there is the Rome Back Streets. It was hot day in the Summer, and we decided to walk to the Colosseum from our hotel, which was located right beside the Pantheon. As we weaved through the many streets of Rome, the one thing that you need pay careful attention to, was not getting run over by the seemingly endless number of motorcycles. They are everywhere. Typically, they are smaller scooters and Vespas. But after seeing them everywhere, it begs the question “where do they park all these bikes?”

As we turned one of the corners to go down a backstreet, lo and behold, I came upon one of the parking lots for these motorcycles. It was hard to believe just how many bikes they could squeeze into the small area. In fact, I really have no idea how the parking process takes place to ensure the perfect sense of alignment, order, compactness and eventual retrieval.

I really love this image because it truly tells a story of how the Italian workers get to work, park their bikes and then at the end of the day they all get back on their bikes and travel home along the narrow streets of Rome. Hence, why you really have to keep your eyes open for your own safety.
