Just thinking of Rome, conjures up in me thoughts of fabulous restaurants, people handwaving, endless water fountains, the Vatican, the Colosseum, crazy drivers and Roman Architecture. It was hot day in the Summer, and we decided to walk to the Colosseum from our hotel, which was located right beside the Pantheon. The sky was a mix of deep blue with fluffy white clouds. This history of Rome and its past Empire is legendary and walking along its streets feels somewhat like a dream. The only way to truly explore Rome is on foot, as you can absorb so much more of its many details. Passing cathedrals, ancient buildings and in this case walking by the famous Vittorio Emmanuel II Monument which was oh so special. Vittorio was the King of Italy from 1861 until his death in. When we climbed to an elevation in the area, we were able to see a most beautiful scene unfold before us.
From the view we had, I was able to compose this image which shows the Church of Santi Luca e Martina on the right had side. What a beautiful example of Italian architecture, as the light reflected off its lovely metal clad dome. Built originally in 625 AD and restored in 1256, this church is structurally wonderful. As you look through the image to the left you next see the world-famous Colosseum, so ever present and noticeable. Continuing along that visual line on the left of the image one can see the gleaming white statues sitting atop of the St. John Lateran Archbasilica.
I was fortunate to find this location and be able to capture such a wonderfully scaled image showing a tiny fraction of Rome’s Architecture.
