For over a year, I committed myself to a special photography project capturing the four seasons of Humber Bay Shores in Toronto’s East End. My goal was to create 11 custom images showcasing the landscape through spring, summer, fall, and winter. This project tested my patience and dedication, requiring multiple visits in extreme weather—from scorching summer heat to bone-chilling winter frost.

One of the standout images from the series was taken on a mid-day autumn afternoon near the breeding pond. The sky was blanketed with thick grey clouds, casting a soft, diffused light over the landscape. Yet, despite the overcast conditions, the fall colors were nothing short of spectacular. The maple trees stood ablaze in deep reds and fiery oranges, their hues seeming to glow against the muted sky. The contrast between the moody atmosphere and the vibrant leaves made the scene even more compelling.

I framed my shot carefully catching the red leaves on the trees, and the yellow and orange leaves on the ground. The air was crisp, carrying the earthy scent of fallen leaves, and the occasional gust of wind sent golden and crimson leaves tumbling to the ground. I had initially hoped for a bright, sunlit autumn day, but in the end, the overcast sky created a richer, more dramatic feel.

This project was a journey through time and seasons, each visit revealing something new. Whether under the blazing sun, drifting snow, or cloudy skies, Humber Bay Shores offered an ever-changing canvas. Now, with my four-season collection complete, I look back on this experience with a sense of accomplishment. Each photograph tells a story of patience, perseverance, and the beauty of nature in all its moods.
