The Middle Eastern country of Oman (the “Sultanate of Oman”), is a mysterious land that has both beautiful scenery, the kindest people you will ever meet and of course, this Oman Ocean Sunrise. Located on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula this coastal country through its history was once an incredibly powerful and important shipping hub. Oman and its main city of Muscat, is the centre of trade because of its extensive ports, ship building industry and access to the main shipping routes of the Persian Gulf region.

Water is part of the history and culture of Omani life. As such, I needed to capture an image of what I felt represented the warmth of the Omani people while also paying homage to the water, which is a crucial component of their lives and livelihoods.

After planning to get a sunrise on the ocean in the town of Salalah in the southern part of Oman, we made our way to the beach before sunrise in order to capture the various stages of the sun rising. There were very few people walking the beach, which made us feel alone and but also connected to the morning light which was transforming before our eyes. The resulting image captured, provides a painterly view of the waves crashing, the sun just breaking the horizon and warm golden colors that only the morning light can deliver. Taken at a slow shutter speed, one can almost feel the water as it ebbs and floes on the beach.
