My first trip to Lucerne was to visit an old friend of mine, who had moved there from Munich, Germany and I was looking to enjoy some good Lucerne Nightscape Photography. My friend loved the quiet lifestyle, its walkable streets and beautiful scenery all around, and by the time our visit was over, I totally understood what he meant. We spent the first morning walking around the main downtown core, traversing its many foot bridges across the River Reuss and taking in the occasional stop at coffee, pastry and chocolate shops. The number of fantastic photo opportunities was immense. The famous Chapel Bridge, beautiful buildings, on either side of the river, lovely iron foot bridges crossing the river, the famous Lucerne Jesuit Church and lots and lots of flowers.

I was really enamored by the small pedestrian bridges that traversed the River Reuss. We walked over them and took in the great scenery all around us. However, later in the evening it began to rain so we took cover back at the hotel. It was now evening and after the rain had stopped, we went out again for a walk around the bridges, and of course I brought my camera gear with me. As we walked along the River Reuss, we came upon the Rathaussteg pedestrian bridge. The look was spectacular to my eye. As I expected, the rain shower left a nice shiny reflective surface on the ground. As I went to cross the bridge, all the lights (electric and reflective) really appealed to me. I needed to capture this image with the bridge walkway, lanterns and city buildings in the background. There was still a slight drizzle in air, so it adds to the final image. In order to capture the details of this image, I took several exposure bracketed shots and merged them together to ensure I got the detail and dynamic range of the scene.

I was very happy to have had the opportunity to capture this image, as it takes me back to the very moment I started to cross the bridge on the drizzly night in Lucerne.
