My first trip to Lucerne was to visit an old friend of mine, who had moved there from Munich, Germany and I was looking to enjoy some good Lucerne Cityscape Photography. My friend loved the quiet lifestyle, its walkable streets and beautiful scenery all around, and by the time our visit was over, I totally understood what he meant. We spent the first morning walking around the main downtown core, traversing its many foot bridges across the River Reuss and taking in the occasional stop at coffee, pastry and chocolate shops. However, what I really wanted was to have a view of Lucerne from high up. After some discussions with the locals they pointed to the Town Walls and Towers, which are located up on the hill on the north side of the city. The original construction included 9 towers and the main wall that joins them together. We were able to climb up four of the towers, and from there we should be treated to a spectacular view of Lucerne and its surrounding landscape.
On the way to this next photo shoot up the hill, we needed to traverse another one of the pedestrian bridges. After exiting the bridge, we came upon this gorgeous scene of a water fountain spraying into the air creating a beautiful arc. The most impressive part of this image is the fact that the sun was behind clouds creating a lovely lit scene, highlighting the fountain itself. In the background, numerous buildings are lined up along the shore with several restaurants with their umbrellas open and the patrons milling about. This is a very special image for me, as it’s a gem and not part of the mainstream images you would typically see for Lucerne. For anyone who has seen this fountain, you will appreciate this image.
