Iceland is one of the most unique and special places on earth and has a very special geography including its Iceland Mountain Ranges and Waterfalls. I can’t believe that I was finally able to visit it. This small island located between Greenland and Norway is basically made from volcanic rock. The interior consists of a plateau characterized by sand and lava fields, mountains, glaciers, and many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands over magnificent waterfalls. It is these characteristics that makes it so beautiful and unlike anything you’ve ever seen. The waterfalls of Iceland vary dramatically in size, height and volume of flowing water.
One day we mapped out a road trip that would take us to four of the more well-known waterfalls. The first stop in the morning the Seljalandsfoss Waterfall only about an hour outside of Reykjavik. With a height of 200 feet, this waterfalls is beauty and often photographed. We walked behind the waterfalls and this was totally exhilarating as the water thundered down only a mere few feet away. After taking some images there, we continued to walk around the waterfalls looking for a unique composition that would be different from the bulk of the photos taken by everyone else (from behind the falls).
I finally settled on this image composition which captures not only the full length of the waterfalls, but also the autumn colors of the grasses and vegetation in the foreground, the lovely clouds and the secondary smaller waterfalls streaming down the mountain. The colors of the day were spectacular. There was a lot of visitors walking around so I needed to wait until the visitor traffic was reduced. I chose to leave only a couple of visitors on the right side of the image, to give you a sense of scale.
There are so many great mountain ranges and waterfalls images that I captured, please keep an eye on my storefront for additional images to be posted soon.
