Iceland is one of the most unique and special places on earth and has a very special geography including its Iceland Mountain Ranges. This small island located between Greenland and Norway is basically made from volcanic rock. Iceland is the only part of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge that rises above sea-level, and its central volcanic plateau is erupting almost constantly. The interior consists of a plateau characterized by sand and lava fields, mountains, and glaciers, and many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands. It is these characteristics that makes it so beautiful and unlike anything you’ve ever seen. The colors of the black lava, green moss/lichen, and reddish/yellow rocks is really something to see.
As we drove along the beautiful highways of Iceland, you are awestruck by the stunningly unique and colorful mountain ranges. Fields of golden grasses meet up with the base of these huge mountains and the colors merge into a green/yellow lichen that convers the sides of the mountains. The mountains in the west side of the island have been shaped through thousands of years of carrying heavy glaciers and battling with the natural elements, polishing off the rough edges. Younger mountains that have been formed when two tectonic plates crash into each other are rougher on the edges. These mountains are rugged looking and seem to crop out of nowhere. If you’ve ever been to Iceland, this image is one that is probably etched into your memory.
There are so many great mountain images that I captured, please keep an eye on my storefront for additional images to be posted soon.
