Iceland is one of the most unique and special places on earth. Visiting Iceland was one of the most exciting trips I have ever taken, definitely one of those little hidden gems on this planet. Leading up to my arrival, I was consumed by the thoughts of capturing so many interesting images of the city and the landscape. When I arrived, I was not let down by the photo opportunities. Our visit started in Reykjavik, its capital city. It is a fabulous city and is very walkable. There are plenty of sights to see, but one that I did not know about, we came upon by chance. As we strolled along the waterfront we soon came upon a beautiful piece of architecture right on the edge of the shoreline only minutes walk from the downtown core of Reykjavik.

This magnificent gleaming colored glass building was the famous Harpa Concert Hall. Wow! I The closer we got, the better it looked. I stood in amazement at this stunning architectural masterpiece, as it reflected the sun’s light from its many multi-faceted windows. Reflecting the geography of its surroundings – the sky, the harbor and the city of Reykjavik – Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Center opened in May 2011 and is home to the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Icelandic Opera. Harpa has a glass façade made up of geometric shapes that change color with the light of day. The main designers are Danish architectural firm Henning Larsen Architects and Icelandic architectural firm Batteriid Architect.

The next challenge was trying to find an angle that would provide me with a composition that could best showcase the glass windows, the reflection of the rising sun and the overall colors of the glass façade.

After experimenting with numerous sides, the image here is the one that I loved the most. It really brings the colors, vibrancy and shape of the building to life. Now that I was able to capture the outside of the building, I turned my thoughts into how I will capture the unbelievable geometric shapes of the inside of the building. Check out my other image in my store showing this.
