The Galapagos Islands offer all visitors a truly unique experience when it comes to searching out and observing animals, birds, fish and reptiles from the prehistoric era. Darwin used his time in Galapagos to complete his theory of evolution. However, if you get up early enough each morning and sit on the top deck of the boat you are on, you may witness some of the most spectacular sunrises you'll ever see. This vibrant scene with its puffy clouds, orange sky and a sea that looks like liquid gold and will have you smiling from ear to ear.
Getting this image was a bit of luck. I was fortunate to wake up at 4am (as usual) went to the galley of the ship and made myself a coffee. Took my coffee and camera gear up to the top deck to take in the sunrise. This day however was exceptional. As chance would have it, the ship was anchored in a position where the sun as it was rising, would be right behind a mountain on an island in the distance creating a magnificent silhouette.
As the sun approached the horizon and “blue hour” was about to turn into the “golden hour”, the sun began to light up the cotton puff clouds, and then the sky began to turn gold. The sky’s reflection in the water turned the sea into a “sea of liquid gold”. I could not believe my eyes, I cried with joy knowing this is a once in a lifetime experience.
I captured my shots, then sat in amazement and exhilaration as this unbelievable sight unfolded before me.
