The Galapagos Islands offer all visitors a truly unique experience when it comes to searching out and observing animals, birds, fish and reptiles from the prehistoric era, and the also includes the Galapagos Cacti. Darwin used his time in Galapagos to complete his theory of evolution. But to be honest it's really about seeing these untouched species in their native habitat. There are so many different types of birds, iguanas, tortoises, a lot of underwater marine life and of course very unique plants, flora and trees.

On one of the islands, we were trekking across a lava rock field that seemed to go on forever and it was hot and the camera gear was getting heavy. The entire island was made of black lava rock, the remnants of past volcanic eruptions. However, as we walked along the various formations, we came upon an area that was filled with a unique plant. What we saw was a rare cactus called the "Lava Cactus". Ideally suited to thrive on lava rock and exist in what most would claim to be an inhospitable environment. They grow in groups and like this image captures the group is large and creates a beautiful colored bouquet of cacti. This is a very rare find as they are found mainly in the Galapagos. I feel that this cacti was the highlight of the island, something that kept us talking for days.
