Painterly Photo Art - To achieve the unique look of this image, I begin with my completed and edited photograph. I then use that image as the starting point to create my final “Painterly” version of that photograph. By using a variety of special artistic editing tools, my goal is to turn a beautiful photograph, into a unique and one-of-a-kind piece of art which looks like a painting. The resulting image here brings out color and feel of the bird. A calming and relaxed image that you will look at time and time again.
Image Backstory - The Galapagos Islands offer all visitors a truly unique experience when it comes to searching out and observing animals, birds, fish and reptiles from the prehistoric era, including the Galapagos Blue Footed Booby. Darwin used his time in Galapagos to complete his theory of evolution. But to be honest it's really about seeing these untouched species in their native habitat. There are so many different types of birds, iguanas, tortoises and a lot of underwater marine life.
We travelled around the islands for about 11 days, stopping at various locations to search out unique birds and animals in their home environment. During my preparations for the trip, the one bird that I really wanted to capture was the "Blue Footed Booby", as this bird has captivated human imagination for centuries. I not only got to see them, but I was able to watch them for hours at a time while they went about their daily business - feeding, taking care of their young, hatching eggs. The research has shown that the more intense the blue is on the father's feet, the healthier their chicks will be.
In this image I wanted to ensure that the head and feet are clearly shown and the blue color of their feet would stand out, and boy do they stand out. I really could not believe how "electric" the blue was on this particular bird. I will never forget the Blue Footed Booby.
