The Patagonia Landscapes are vast and beautiful, and they have some of best glaciers in the world. This image of the Perito Moreno Glacier, is one of the most important tourist attractions in Argentine Patagonia. What makes this glacier so fascinating, is that it is one of the only glaciers in the entire world that is not receding. It grows new ice as much as it loses it, thus it's in a state of equilibrium. Located near the town of Calafate in southern Argentina, this glacier is always moving. The glacial ice color has varying degrees of blue, from deep blue to light and to iridescent. What a beautiful sight to see. They built a wonderful walkway to allow visitors to walk along the front face and see the glacier from different perspectives.
However, what really make the visit to this glacier special, is the sound of the cracking and breaking ice. Standing on walkway and looking at the 240 foot high glacier was humbling. The loud thunderous sounds of the ice cracking or when pieces break off from the front face and fall into the waters of Argentino Lake are sights and sounds you will never forget. I had goose bumps watching and listening to this happening right before my very eyes.
The glacier is huge, so I wanted to capture an image that would show the scale of the glacier and also bring into the foreground the walkway. If you look closely, at the far right of the walkway, you will see a person standing there. After hiking around and finally finding the right location and selecting the correct lens, I was able to capture this image showing the entire leading edge of the glacier giving you a sense of its size.
I was so happy to be in Patagonia and explore its beauty, and gain a deeper appreciation for the famous Perito Moreno Glacier. If you want to add some adventure to your life, try a visit to Patagonia, in the southern tip of Argentina. If you have ever visited the Perito Moreno glacier before, this view should prove to be quite memorable. This image on canvas would make a great statement piece on your wall.
