Visiting the Antarctic, with all its Antarctic Blue Ice, was the most exciting and memorable trip I have ever taken. In fact nothing for me has topped it. There is something so magical and exciting about crossing the Drake Passage with its enormous waves making your cruise boat bob like a cork, seeing your first huge 150 foot high iceberg go floating by, and then there is the vastness of it all. This part of the world is so remote (in reality, very few people travel there because if its remoteness) you will feel alone, and you will realize how small you actually are in this world. Thankfully, our cruise ship has plenty of fabulous food and wine :).
The snow capped mountains, the deep blue sea and the very many shades of blue ice will all leave an indelible impression on you. Then there are the shapes of the icebergs. No two are alike, and in fact they are all so different, it keeps you in awe as to how they are all made. Add to that the wildlife, especially the various species of penguins that you can get up close and personal with, and you have the makings of one heck of an adventure.
In this image we were cruising around on our small inflatable boat looking at the unique ice formations, I saw this blue tunnel of light ahead of me. I asked the driver to get closer and this image began to take shape in my head. Shooting madly as we bobbed along in the waves, I was fortunate to be able to capture this shot. I processed this image in black and white, so that you are captivated by the beautiful bright blue ice shining in the tunnel. What a scene.
