When visiting the Amalfi Coast of Italy, you will undoubtedly be seeing the Town of Amalfi’s Waterfront. I personally feel that the best way to come into Amalfi is via boat. As you begin your approach into Amalfi, the town begins to unfold. With Monte Cerreto (4,314 ft high) as a backdrop, the beautiful golden, yellow and white buildings start to come into focus as they sit nestled at the base of dramatic cliffs and lush green trees. Soon the steeple of St. Andrew’s Cathedral which sits in the middle of Piazza Duomo, comes into view. As the boat approaches the dock, your eyes don’t know where to look as there are so many things to observe. In fact, I was so busy looking around I barley took any photos.

After touring the town of Amalfi and then taking a bus to the top of the mountain to visit the Town of Ravello (which is another spectacular town to visit), we were ready to board the boat to go back to Positano. I now had the challenge of needing to capture an image that would always remind me of this beautiful waterfront scene. As the boat began to pull out of the dock, I had to scramble to find a location on the deck of the boat where I would have an unobstructed view of Amalfi. Once I settled in, I need to get set-up and get prepared to capture the shot. As the boat pulled out and began to change its orientation, I could see the image that I wanted to capture.

The resulting image which benefited by the beautiful clouds, included a wide view of Amalfi’s main buildings, steep cliffs, mountains, and a sailboat that just happened be moving perfectly into position on the left. I took numerous shots but this one seemed to capture the image the best. I was really proud of this shot and was thankful for a smooth riding boat.
