As a wildlife photographer, I've always had a fascination with capturing the beauty and power of the African Black Rhino. My intentions for this safari were clear - to take a striking portrait photograph of the Rhinoceros, one that would capture the magnificence of the animal in a unique way.
However, I soon realized that this would not be an easy task. The African Black Rhino is a very large and powerful animal, and finding them in their natural habitat can be quite challenging. Additionally, getting to the right location by land rover, getting close enough but not too close as they are known to attack land rovers, keeping totally silent, and not being able to leave the land rover vehicle for safety's sake were all significant barriers that I needed to overcome.
After hours of searching, we finally found a herd of rhinos. My heart was racing with excitement as the herd of rhinos walked very close to us, thankfully they seemed docile. Our guide had tracked down the location of the rhinos, and the challenge now was to get the camera set up on a beanbag since tripods aren't usable. Once we got the camera settings correct, it was a matter of waiting for the animal to get into a good position for the photo. Light was fading, so timing was becoming another problem.
As the rhinoceros moved about, I couldn't help but feel the sheer thrill of being in the wilds of Africa, surrounded by nature and its beauty and its power. The rhinoceros is a member of the African Big Five, and everyone on safari wants to see all five. This was a dream come true, and I was determined to succeed despite the odds.
Despite the challenges, my unique attributes of determination and ability to work under pressure came into play. The adrenaline rush of getting the perfect shot of the mighty rhinoceros was a feeling like no other. Not making a sound, I waited patiently for the perfect moment to capture the shot.
Finally, the rhinoceros stood still in a beautiful position. I clicked the camera, and captured several shots. I checked the back of the camera and, I had done it - I had captured a striking portrait photograph of the African Black Rhino. It was a moment of triumph and satisfaction, one that I will never forget.
In the end, my journey to capture this photograph was not just about taking a picture. It was about pushing myself to overcome barriers, both physical and mental, and to create a memory of a dream location on safari. It was an adventure that I will always cherish and a reminder that determination and perseverance can lead to incredible rewards.
