I had always dreamed of going on a safari to see the African Big Five animals. The Big Five - lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalo - have always held a special allure in the hearts of all those going on a safari, and the dream to see them all. As a photographer, my ultimate goal was to capture striking portrait photographs of each of these magnificent creatures, in the hopes of creating a fine art “collectors” print that would inspire awe and wonder in all who saw it.
Finally, my dream came true when I booked a stay at the Mala Mala Safari camp in South Africa. Our guide, Mike, was a talented and experienced tracker, and I knew that with his help, I might be able to achieve my ultimate goal.
The first day of our safari was filled with amazing animal sightings, but we had yet to see the Big Five. My heart was racing with excitement and anticipation as we set out on our second day in search of the finding them all. Mike was confident we would, as Mala Mala is known for having huge animal populations.
As we drove through the African savannah, I could feel my heart pounding with excitement. We spotted a lion lounging in the sun, and I quickly snapped some photos of him before we moved on.
Next, we came across a beautiful leopard tracking down his next meal. The sight and feeling of leopard as walked right beside our range rover was breathtaking, and I knew that I had to get the perfect shot. With Mike's guidance, I was able to position myself for the perfect angle and snapped some stunning shots.
As we continued our journey, we came across a rhino grazing in the distance. Despite being one of the more dangerous animals, I couldn't help but be in awe of its sheer size and power. I quickly took a few shots before we moved on.
The excitement continued as we came across a herd of majestic elephants. Watching them in their natural habitat was truly awe-inspiring, and I couldn't help but take photo after photo to capture the moment.
Finally, as the sun began to set, we came across a herd of buffalo grazing by a watering hole.
Having been able to see and photograph all of the Big Five in one day, goes down as one of the most exciting days of my life and was almost too much to take in.
As we made our way back to camp, I couldn't believe that we had managed to see all five of the Big Five animals in one day. This was truly a dream come true, and I knew that I had captured something special that would inspire others for years to come.
Back home, I worked tirelessly to perfect my portrait images and created the ultimate fine art print of the African Big Five. When it was finally complete, I couldn't help but feel proud of what I had accomplished. This collector’s edition image captures in one print, all five of the African Big Five that I saw and photographed in that One Day, creating a special moment for all who see it and those who have seen the Big Five in their lifetime. And for me, it was the culmination of a lifelong dream come true.
